Bio:

The search. The journey. The ride. That's what King Huey's sound is all about. His journey started at the age of 8, while finishing up his first mix-tape. He spent entire days listening for the "right" tunes, bits and pieces of songs, recorded from FM radio, often overdubbed with his own vocals. He always showcased them to his brothers and sisters, listening to their feedback and taking notes. He spent time figuring out ways to make the mixes flow, studying the emotion of his musical selections. As he grew, his studies continued, exploring the different flavors of song and sound. Hip-Hop. Rock. Electronic music.

The first time he heard a real, beat-matched electronic mix he was intrigued. The smooth transitions from track to track fascinated his imagination. Hours were spent listening to mixes from around the globe. Eventually his passion overtook him, driving him to study DJ mixing techniques on the internet, from any source he could find. His curiosity led him to the discovery of the popular "2 turntables and mixer" setup. He had to have it. While saving his hard-earned cash for equipment he taught him self to beat-match with a free DJ program on his computer. A mere two months after touching turntables for the first time, King Huey landed his first gig at a club. The short opening slot he played impressed the right people and eventually earned him a weekly spot.

The fresh, technology-laden, sounds-of-now have breathed new life into King's work. His sound has evolved into an unmistakable blend of minimal precision, techno fearlessness, and sultry sub-bass funk. If you get a chance to chat with Huey, you'll find he's not shy when describing his sound. But in the end, he prefers to let the music do the talking.
